Gothenburg's Music Doc Festival starts tonight! Running April 8 - 15, 2011, this festival will show a series of documentaries about musicians and their music, all around the city. Many of the documentaries are in English. Featuring 16 documentaries at 12 different venues, and an additional 11 live acts during the festival, the festival offers you a lot to do these next 8 days.

There are documentaries about artists such as Ray Charles, Feist, Harry Nilsson and many, many more. Documentaries are from a variety of countries too. To find out more details about each event, pick up a program (in Swedish) at the public library, or visit musicdocgbg.se. There you can watch trailers, see descriptions (in Swedish) about the movies and download the program (<< click "tryck här" in that link for the .pdf), which includes a full schedule of the festival. The locations of each film showing are listed, and you can even find addresses and bus/tram stops (närmaste hållplats) for each. Don't miss the film competition, where you can attend and vote for the best film that local competitors have created and entered.

Live Shows

Don't forget about the live shows! On the event website click "Liveakter/övrigt" for specific information about each event. Use a translator or Swedish friend because some of those descriptions contain important information. Not all in this category are bands. For example, for "Virkshop" you can go to Gnutiken, a software support shop and café, and get creative doing crafts with old cassette tapes!

Tickets

Tickets are 50kr each for some events, but some events have free entrance. Look for the words "fri entré for the free ones. Please note that most showings also require a festival pass, which is a one-time 20kr. If you aren't sure if the show you want to see requires a pass, it's best to ask the ticket office.

If tickets are still available by the time of the event, some will be available at the door. To buy in advance use either ticnet.se or go to Pusterviksbiljetter, at Järntorget (tel. 031-130 680).

Parken

Before the free concert at Parken tomorrow (Sat April 9) evening, if you have a festival pass, you can eat 2 for 1 dinner! Please visit parken.se or call them for more information.

Enjoy the festival!
