City Beat: Valborg Celebrations This Weekend

Hopefully you read about Valborgsmässoafton in this lovely article talking about the tradition of having a bonfire at the end of wintertime. There are other fun activities surrounding the bonfire too, like little festivals all over the city. I'll give you a list of some places that might be interesting to go celebrate tonight and see the bonfire, courtesy of Visit the website for a complete list.

**Note: All of the following events are on Saturday, April 30 2011.**

Trädgårdsföreningen (map)

Gothenburg's student unions present choir performances, and more student activities and greetings from universities. Time: 14.00-16.15, Entrance: 20 kr, Trädgårdsföreningen's website.

Backa Västergård (map)

Backa Västergård's parent cooperative presents grilling, cafés, prize drawings, face painting and children's activities. Time: 17.00. Bonfire at 19.00,

Slottsskogen (map)

At Slottsskogsteatern (stage in the park) 13:40-17:00 there will be bands performing. Then on the lawn by Björngårdsvillan in Slottsskogen 18:00-22:00 there will be Swedish traditional "Allsång" where everyone sings along together, with children's activities and face painting. The bonfire is lit at 21:00

Härlanda Tjärn (map)

IBF/IBK Gothenburg present a celebration from 16.00-20.00. The bonfire is at 19:30. There will be a band, darts, raffles, hamburgers, sausage, coffee, ice cream and more.
