Tomorrow, Saturday May 21 is the annual Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon race. The race has been every year since 1980. Around 75,000 runners register for the race (though usually around 30% chicken out, I don't blame them). They run their 21 km all over Central Gothenburg as you can see their track on the image.

200,000 spectators will be lined up along the track cheering on the runners. It is actually quite impressive to see those ridiculously fast-paced runners running like cheetahs several meters in front of everyone else. The race starts and ends at the edge of Slottsskogen at Slottsskogsvallen (map). The first start is at 13.30. Along the track is more than just watching people run, it's a festive environment with music and good spirits. Let's hope for good weather!

Along with the race this weekend is Göteborgsvarvet Sport & Health Expo at Friidrottens Hus, near the race's start and finish. Exhibitions will have to do with sports equipment, magazines, food and more. It is May 19 to May 22.

Websites - Here you can also see information (under the "Races" tab)on the other races of Göteborgsvarvet including youth/children's races of shorter distances and the Special Needs Race which is today!
